CHEMICALS TRANSPORTATION

Transportation of bagged chemicals from Walvis Bay to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The need to transport chemicals from one point to another is more prominent than most people would expect. However, the rules governing the transport of chemicals by road are extremely complex and require specific procedures that are dependent on the type and quantity of chemicals being transported. The hazards of transporting chemicals have to be reasonably planned with the strict implementation of appropriate measures to minimise risk and demonstrate an adequate duty of care.

Our client, an international specialist in chemical supply, searched for a partner who understood these cautions and had the experience to transport chemicals. Thus, Alistair Group had all the credentials and track-record our customer was looking for.

Our customer’s business challenges

Our customer required several tons of bagged chemicals to be transported from Walvis Bay to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The task was highly complex due to:

  • Weather conditions playing a pivotal role in the safe transportation of this cargo as the cargo will be lost if it comes in contact with water.
  • Management of the route from Walvis Bay to DRC
  • Safety concerns regarding the  hazardous nature of the  cargo being carried
  • The challenges associated with each country having different regulations regarding the transportation of dangerous goods

Our key actions to meet our customers’ expectations

Different countries have different processes and regulatory systems for handling hazardous materials to protect the environment and community. Since this cargo is being transported through multiple countries, Alistair Group ensured we were aware and accustomed to each country’s regulations and Laws. Alistair has developed a unique system that allows us to track, per country, what regulations are applicable, what actions need to be taken, and ensure that our internal safety procedures align with international standards and that these standards are respected at all times.

Tangible results

Thanks to the expertise of our team, we were able to successfully transport the cargo from Walvis Bay to DRC within transit time and with no reported incidents.
